This definition of community lacks vision –
change is not always vibrant. The gathering
of fools called “commerce” spreads
malevolent seeds to a future, desiccant wind.
A few words exchanged with a good friend about the possibility of creating artist owned and run collectives, that I thought worthy of sharing. Edited for context. Enjoy.
The way that “creatives” (artists, developers, anybody who does work that’s centered around cognitive process) work is in cycles, and when the cycle is on the upturn, everything else tends to get low (or even no) priority, and as a result, a lot more than the shit work doesn’t get done. Dishes go unwashed, and if you’re not careful, bills go unpaid and food remains un-purchased and/or uneaten. It’s a bit of an obsession, but a controlled one. Hopefully, anyway. This tends to be how things get done, and it works. Unless you’re Ayn Rand, but I digress.
